Ken Erway
Guitarist, Vocalist, and Bassist Ken teaches a folk/finger picking style, with an emphasis on the classic songs of the 60’s and 70’s. Included are songs by Bob Dylan, Donovan, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Willie Nelson and others. Ken is also an accomplished performer, currently playing in the groups DISTILLED, the BROTHERS GRATEFUL and the RIDGE ROAD IRREGULARS. Ken also teaches FRETBOARD LOGIC by Bill Edwards. This is a system of music theory using forms specific to the unique tuning of the guitar (EADGBE) that easily connect the entire length of the fretboard in the “CAGED” system. This program applies the learned forms towards the goal of playing lead guitar. Ken accepts students that are in 7th grade and older after an initial interview to be accepted into his program. He is very well structured in his approach to music education. Ken has been teaching and playing in the area for over 35 years and is a local favorite as a performer in many restaurants and vineyards. Ken does not book on line but is accepting new students! Please contact the store for more information. |
Simon Bjarning
Simon is what you could call an all-round drummer. Steeped in a background in classical percussion and a thorough knowledge of music history and genres, his playing on the drum set has a special, exciting flair. He takes great pride in his ability to mesh in a group musically, yet taking the lead when called for. He holds his M.A. in Music from the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen, Denmark (graduation 2006). Various professional ensembles in the past have relied on him to keep the steady beat while they relish in the musical experiences he helps bring together. Simon has played with all sorts of ensembles, either standing in the percussion section or sitting behind the drum set. He has sat on a cajon to perform with the Balkan folk music trio Trip, as he has also performed a drum set solo with the Copenhagen Phil at Roskilde Festival (2006). He has worked with Sebastian, a beloved singer/songwriter in Denmark, and he also played in the pit as drummer/percussionist at the New Theater (Ny Teater) from 2005 - 2012: Denmark's Broadway theater. In addition to being well-versed in all genres, Simon is a teacher. He believes in passing the craft of drumming on to the next generation--in passing on the tradition. He has taught young children as well as teenagers and adults who want to play drums and learn more about music. Simon was born in Denmark, but he models his teaching after American methods and currently studies the Moeller Technique with Dom Famularo. Simon teaches and does freelance work as a drummer in Upstate New York, where he now resides with his wife and two boys. |
